Peering out from the mosque in Dali, China, a woman passes by.
I was walking up the hill from the Bird’s Nest hostel (a great place to stay, I might add) toward the old stone village and saw a mosque; entered and waited for a Dali vision.
The town is laid-back….aesthetically beautiful…the people are kind and there are many more foreigners here than I expected. The Hui people one group of the 56 officially recognized ethnic minorities that live in China and reside in the town of Dali;they are distinguishable as members of Islam, pray in these long-standing mosques and their lineage can be traced from those that traveled along the Silk Road in the days of old.
Ryan Keenan and Colin Flahive take an evening walk in Dali.
